Before I Wake by Rachel Vincent

5.0

You know in my last review of the previous book, If I Die, I said that it was the best boo by far...well Before I Wake completely blows it out the picture, it's so far away it's just a speck in the distance.  Before I Wake is made of awesome, it really is.  I jumped at the chance to review this book and although I can sometimes be wary about reviewing the next in a series in case it lets me down, I have never once had that problem with anything by Rachel Vincent.  With each book she has wrote for the Soul Screamers series it get's better and better and I eagerly await the next instalment.
Spoiler
One thing that I was looking forward to reading the most was Kaylee's extra abilities.  The cliffhanger in the previous book made this key point one of the things I really wanted to see expanded on...well after her relationship with Tod, but more about that later ;).  I love how Kaylee is trying to live a somewhat normal 'human' life and going to school but still has to disappear for jobs.  I am glad that the truth about what she is has finally been told to her cousin, and now that both her and Emma know a bit more about what is really going on it makes it a little bit easier for Kaylee to include them on things, like covering for jobs.
Her relationship with Tod is still going strong and I absolutely love how he supports and is there for her in so many ways.  Their emotional and physical connection is always present whether they are together or not. He is there for her in so many ways and knows what is best for her.  I think his birthday present to her has to be the best thing ever, and even though it wasn't expensive, just a piece of paper it has to be one of the most thoughtful things he has done.  I am so glad this pair decided to get their act together they were made for each other.

Things with Nash and Sabine are not so good, which is understandable after what transpired in If I Die, but part way through Before I Wake things become less tense as they are all fighting a common enemy, and it was nice to see them somewhat relaxed towards each other.

Before I Wake sees us get reacquainted with a few familiar characters from previous books, and some of them I was shocked to actually make an appearance and sad when they ha to go (quite vague but will make sense when you read the book).  One person that we all know and love hate is Thane, and he is back and still up to no good causing havoc wherever he goes and it's up to Kaylee and the gang to try to stop him.

If you get a chance to read this amazing instalment then be prepared and carry tissues, and don't read in a public place.  There are two parts in Before I Wake that I sobbed my heart out.  The first one was...............I cried, I was shocked, I felt sorry for.....and wanted to give them hugs, but the aftermath and the way it was dealt I didn't like, even though it had to be done that way to protect ....... The second part I cried even more.  I couldn't believe it happened and I didn't see it coming, I thought it was all ok, and although things were done to save....... it didn't go back to the way things were, and again this is something I am really really looking forward to finding out how it plays out in With All My Soul, which is forever away.

Once again Rachel has blew me away with her writing, the wait for the next book is going to be torture and I may have to re-read the whole series again and try to tackle the Shifters Series just to keep me occupied.
