This story was cute and sappy. The author did a great job portraying all of the emotions of a gay girl trying to balance being true to herself and surviving in a world that didn’t always accept her. With a lighthearted story and voice, this author still managed to touch on important topics like the AIDs crisis, homophobia, and environmentalism. I found myself tearing up at points in the book that handled gay marriage being legalized.
The writing style wasn’t necessarily my cup of tea—there were some bulky paragraphs filled with description that my ADHD brain tended to just skim. I also selfishly wish there had been more fluffy romantic moments, but I think that’s just because my queer heart is never satiated.
