I read this in high school and it has stuck with me for years. I remember feeling enchanted by the writing even as it destroyed me emotionally. I was so invested in the well being of these characters even when the future looked bleak for them. I look forward to making time for a reread and I hope it continues to live up to my memory.
Edit: I reread it via auidobook Feb 2024. It's even better as adult. The commentary on faith and community and what makes someone worthy of life hits even harder for me now. Excellent in every way.
