Catherine De Medici by Leonie Frieda

What a vivid account! I loved the descriptive detail of unbelievable episodes from the 16th century French court. Frieda adds just enough detail and context to add dimension to her biography without ever making the reader feel as though they've lost track of the main narrative - the life of a singular diplomat and remarkable woman, Catherine de Medici.
