The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry

5.0

I had always put off reading this book because I'd heard it was so sad. Perhaps there is something wrong with me in that I didn't find it so. People we meet come and go, sometimes by choice, sometimes not. You can't lose someone's presence in your life unless you gained it in the first place.

That's all about the subtext of the book, but as far as just a pleasant read, this certainly is one. Whether Saint-Exupery was using very much his own voice to narrate it or that if a created character I don't know, but he is real and enjoyable. Some of the wonder and fascination of the book comes, we must acknowledge, from the drawings and from what we know of the author, a brave, passionate pilot who died soon after it's writing. The perfect book to revisit every few years.
