Demonsong by F. Paul Wilson

4.0

A sword-and-sorcery (literally) introduction to F. Paul Wilson's The Secret History of the World. The hero's name -- Glaeken -- rang a bell, and sure enough, that is the name of Scott Glenn's character in Michael Mann's stylish but slightly incomprehensible thriller, The Keep. Mann's original 3.5 hr version was chopped to 96 min. by Paramount. Shame! Shame! But Demonsong is a short, fast-moving quest by Glaeken to rid his world of a curse by the wizard Rasalom (Molasar from The Keep spelled backwards). The story is good enough so I want to continue on with the series. Next up, "The Compendium of Srem," available only in a Kindle version. I'll try it.
