Rock Bottom Girl by Lucy Score is a contemporary romance where our main character Marley is trying to find out who she is and where she belongs after a recent break up and job loss has left her feeling lost and adrift in a world where it seems like everyone else has their shit together. Marley ends up back in her hometown, staying with her parents, and gets a temporary position at the local high school as a physical education, teacher, and the girls’ soccer coach. Not only is Marley back at her old high school, her former crush Jake Weston is also a teacher. Through some entertaining circumstances they end up in a fake dating relationship. This is such a sweet story of friendship, of learning to enjoy life in the moment, of finding yourself, and, of course, love. I appreciate that our main characters are in their 30s and 40s. It’s refreshing to read a romance where someone is not 20 years old but has lived some life. I feel like that adds to the story itself. Nothing against romances with 20-year-olds, but I think as I get older, I appreciate seeing characters who I can identify more with. I absolutely love reading this book and highly recommend. Lucy Score is an auto buy for me. If you love slow burns, well written characters with depth, and a storyline that is well paced and keeps the pages turning - give her a read! This is the 6th book by her I’ve read and loved them all! 💜
