While this handbook does take place before the main trilogy of Summoners books, it acts as a spoiler for some of the major details of it. I am glad I did not read it first, but I also would’ve enjoyed having the map that it provides as it was very useful to understand the region. The journal of James gives a truly different perspective on this world and I love his character, even if it was a short trip with him. Its ending is something that is not brought up in the trilogy, taking place after it, and it satisfied me in many ways. A great addition to the Summoner’s series.
