If you had asked me at 50% how I was going to rate this, I may have said a 3, even a 2. It was slow, and I had trouble getting it read, even though it was so short. BUT BUT BUT I kept on and the way it sped up and then wrapped up really impressed me. It left me cold, but in that kind of way where you're sure that the message the book has is both true and terrifying. The message was loud and clear to me, and I'm glad to receive it. Honestly, at the end it read more to me like an origin story or folklore than it did a history, and I think that's what made it such a strong book.

If you like a book that's tense and atmospheric but has a real lasting impact, this is the book for you.
