Doctor Sleep by Stephen King

4.0

Well, it isn't The Shining, but it would be very unfair to even compare the two. They are two different stories, the first of Danny as a child who is almost murdered and the second of Dan as an adult alcoholic. I really liked this followup to The Shining and the story was touching in a lot of ways. The way that his alcoholism is portrayed and his journey through that darkness is a large portion of this novel, much in the same way we saw Danny's father travel through his alcoholism and madness. I think that this is one of King's more redemptive novels and I had no idea if Danny would live to see that end of the story.

I won't say much about what happens, but if you enjoy Stephen King and/or The Shining and want to know what happened to that little boy...read this. It is great and only has a few minor issues that made the book a little long and choppy. The beginning especially felt severely disjointed, but it resolved itself fairly quickly.
