I read this as a child who grew up with a facial deformity and had many surgeries to correct it. I always attended school and kids were not kind. I could really see my own experiences in how kids responded to Auggie.
As a middle school level text, I could see it didn’t have the complexity of emotions etc that it could have. The POVs also changed abruptly and some seemed rather pointless - they could have been told through the main cast POV and not spin off chapters (think Justin and Via’s friend). This did rob something from Auggie’s experience I think.
