The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller

5.0

I can't get over of how beautifully written this novel is. I don't know how the author did it but it was truly captivating. She made it feel like a conversation on Archaic or Greek times but at the same time in a modern way. It is not hard to read. I enjoyed reading it.

The foreshadowing of the events especially when you know how the myth ends breaks me. It did indeed!!

"And perhaps it is the greater grief, after all, to be left on earth when another is gone. Do you think?"
"Perhaps," Achilles admitted.

And...

"Name one hero who was happy."

Then later, Achilles said he's going to be the first and let Patroclus swear it because he would be the reason. Damn, it hurts on that part because the myth ends with Patroclus dying first and it made Achilles go mad and decided to kill Hector even though the prophecy said he's going to die after that. It was a suicide!!

I literally cried at the ending part. Like how Achilles reacted when he found out Patroclus died and how Patroclus ghost wander because the damn son of Achilles did not allow Patroclus name to be written besides Achilles tomb. And me realizing that the story was narrated by the ghost of Patroclus.

Author did end it beautifully though. It makes a reader like me gives a sigh of relief after the bawling moments.
