I didn't realise this was the second in a series until it was written in the author note at the end.
Can easily be read as a standalone - I felt everything was easily explained (if not in a ham-fisted way), there was no confusion over characters' previous relationships or histories.
I really enjoyed the narrative, but the author(s)' inclusion of interspersed chaptersin the mind of the killer reduced much suspense: especially as our protagonists soon learn all of this information regardless.
Only the final twist came as a surprise.
