Here’s my full review with this trilogy—
It’s great. It’s a dark romance so dealing with sensitive topics like suicide ideation, sexual assault, abuse, and among other things were what you would expect. The thing I liked the most was bringing light to each of the guys’ traumas that were also specifically connected with Elliot and therefore, building that sense of trust.
But here’s the thing, while I understand RH tropes are always somewhat similar, it’s just going on extremely similar with one another. This is not an accusation that nothing about this is original, in fact, most of the RH I read didn’t have some of the stuff that this trilogy had than the others. Similarity is bound to happen, right?
I just wish that somehow, with RH fiction, there’s a different thing. When it comes to RH fantasy, the world is your oyster, but when it’s RH fiction, why does it seem so limited?
Like, I can’t count the amount of times I’ve read through books about this girl going to college where the MMCs are, trying to learn about their loved one’s disappearance/death.
The second book was better than any of the other books. Probably because I felt more connected towards Elliot than ever.
Anyway, past the other topics, homophobia and sexism were something that was addressed in the book. Of course, you’d expect that especially since a girl walked into a brotherhood that was basically just a fraternity. It was a breath of fresh air honestly. Especially when we get to the part that Archer and Kingston were exploring their friendship to one another into something more romantic than that.
I’m sure there’s some other stuff I’m forgetting but I’m forgetful.
Props to the author because I did like this trilogy. While the unknown assailants were kind of obvious, each twist and turn had me looking whether or not the obvious people were the obvious suspects or even the innocent were the suspects. Even though it was predictable, it wasn’t that wildly predictable that you would say it wasn’t worth it reading more.
