The Oleander Sword by Tasha Suri

adventurous challenging dark tense medium-paced

3.5

After a slow start, I really enjoyed this. I was particularly interested in the Malini sections that focused on the politics and intrigue of her being a female emperor in a a male-dominated society. Priya and Malini continue to be unapologetically strong protagonists, fierce and resilient and flawed at the same time. I wasn’t as interested in the parts of the story focused on Ahiranya and the not so benevolent gods returning there, but I did really enjoy Bhumika as a character and thought she was wonderfully developed after book 1. The ending was as big and dramatic as foreshadowed for Malini and Priya, and I’m looking forward to seeing how it all finishes up in the final book of the trilogy.
