Howliday Inn by James Howe, Lynn Munsinger

4.0

This was a really good story but setting up the plot took up perhaps the first 40% of the book. I had no problem but Em had a harder time getting into it until we hit 40%. She realized, hey this is a mystery and was excited and curious. The rest of the book went quickly. It was nearly twice the length of the prior book in the series.

That said, I loved the variety of characters in the form of cats and dogs. Em loved that I gave them all distinctly different voices. By the time we finished, she was ready to hear more. She wanted another from the same series. I think we'll need to mix in a different series after book 3.

I'd recommend this book as a read aloud. An adult reader will laugh at the puns that may go over the listener's heads but its a great opportunity to help listeners understand and notice puns.
