Burn for Me by Sara Cate

2.0

The premise of this story had so much potential! It was like the bud was there, but it never really bloomed fully. Which was so odd and a little upsetting because Sara Cate is such a talented writer! I loved her book Praise so I was a bit let down with this one.

Everly is a professor in her mid thirties who used to be an extraordinary journalist, one who published an article that completely took down a horrible man who was working in the human trafficking ring which left his family to crumble. But after that one high of her career, she was stuck and couldn't get that again.

So when she becomes a professor and sees that the son of the man she took down in her class, she knows it can't be good. Cullen is a freshman in college, at 18 years old, and is out for revenge. Not for his piece of shit father, but for his mother who couldn't handle everything that went down and OD'd right in front of a 10 year old Cullen.

The plot could have been amazing, with him tormenting her the entire book, but things got a bit too much for me personally. The age gap was the first thing that struck me. I usually don't mind an age gap, but Everly being in her mid thirties and Cullen being 18 was just too much for me. and then it got into spicy scenes that definitely could be considered dub con and that just isn't something I'm into. Like I said, I love Sara Cate and her writing and definitely will continue reading her stuff, but this book just wasn't it for me
