The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins

5.0

This was a page-turner of a book. I had a really hard time putting it down. It was separated into easily manageable chapter sizes, which is a plus for me. The problem was, I didn't want to stop even at the chapters end!

It's not the most original idea. It's been covered by Stephen King, among others, but it was written in a very original way. I was impressed with how the author kept the book YA, but still managed to convey the gritty violence and reality of the games.

I was longing for a happy ending. Of course, if a real love affair had developed between Peeta and Katniss, Gale would have been left alone. He was only physically present in the first couple of chapters, but the author kept Gale in the forefront throughout the story. Although I wasn't happy with the semi-cliffhanger ending, I am anxious to read the next in the series and see who does get the happy ending. Gale or Peeta. Or will there be no happy ending. I was left really wanting to know.
