Cutlass is a captivating standalone by T.M Franklin. It is a rollicking, action-packed Pirate adventure, drama, mystery, danger, secrets, a treasure hunt, and a dash of romance. I am so happy I stumbled upon this book, I love a good pirate adventure, and this definitely doesn’t disappoint!
Set in 1748 Sarina Talbot has disguised herself as a boy and snuck aboard a Pirate Ship, hell bent on revenge. She’s after the man who murdered her father and she won’t rest until justice is done.
Jack Tremayne, aka One-Eyed Jack, is the Captain of the pirate ship “Black Arrow”. His ruthless and bloodthirsty reputation precedes him, and the mere mention of his name strikes fear into the hearts of all who’ve heard the tales. He is on a quest that will wreck revenge and bring him untold wealth in the process. This treasure hunt is fraught with peril, but Jack will stop at nothing to get what he wants. What happens when he discovers his cabin boy is actually a girl? What happens when she tries to kill him/ Will she believe him when he claims he’s innocent of the crime? These two will need to work together to get what they want? But danger follows them and there is a traitor on board. What happens you ask? Well you really must read all the exciting details for yourself!!!
This was such a fun read- packed full of action, suspense, humour, intensity, and mystery. The author did a superb job with the character and plot development. The world-building and historical details were clever and creative. I was transported onto the high seas experiencing the story right alongside the characters as we embarked on our treasure hunt. And I loved every minute. There is a romantic element to the story- but it is a very small part of the overall story. There is a little kissing, but not much more. The chemistry between the characters is really intense- which added an extra element of interest to the story.
There are journal entries which help to build some of the backstory and adds an extra layer to the whole storyline. There are several threads playing out at the same time, and the author expertly weaves them all together.
The story twists and turns, keeping me on the edge of my seat a lot of the time, trying to figure out what was happening and who the traitor was. Even though I guessed who right from the beginning, this predictability didn’t detract from my enjoyment of the story, as I followed along to see if I was right.
So if you love pirates, treasure hunts, hidden agendas, battles on the high seas, action, danger, legends, sword fights, a vocal parrot, a Caribbean adventure, deciphering puzzles and clues, tension, intrigue, and a touch of the supernatural- then what are you waiting for, this is definitely the book for you!!!

Thank you, T.M Franklin!
