Game Time, Mallory! by Laurie Friedman

3.0

Game Time, Mallory is the 23rd book in the Mallory McDonald series. Mallory, the title character, is excited to play basketball, but nervous about joining a team without her friends. When teams are formed, she winds up with mean girls Arielle and Danielle, who taunt her repeatedly about her inability to pass or shoot the ball. Mallory worries the season will end without her ever making a contribution to her team.

Game Time, Mallory is intended for the lower end of the middle grade spectrum. The Mallory series really takes a positive turn in this latest story, as it takes the focus away from Mallory and her best friends and gives Mallory an opportunity to branch out on her own. By playing basketball, she learns important lessons about teamwork, persistence, and confidence.
