Down with the Shine by Kate Karyus Quinn

5.0

I will read any of this author's books when they are published. I have read her three books and LOVED all three.

I loved the story, the characters, the premise, the creativity....the only thing I didn't enjoy was the profanity, but I realize I am never going to win that fight with modern young adult literature.

Lennie wants to feel alive and be popular months after her best friend was brutally murdered, so she party-crashes the popular kids' party, bringing with her some moonshine her uncles are known for making. She toasts with everyone in attendance at the party, "granting" their wishes with each drink.

Quinn's creativity with adolescent wishes was interesting and terrifying all at once. The relationships among the teenagers was complicated and a mess, as it is in real life. There was familial drama as well as that touch of magic that Quinn will probably become known for.

Loved it.
