JR Ward can really do no wrong in my eyes.
This novel was not quite what I expected but I loved it so much. I kind of expected the supernatural element to be more at the forefront, the way it is in BDB but, it was certainly a nice change of pace to have the mystery element be the driving force.
I love Lydia and Daniel. These two might be some of my favorite characters JR has written so far. I’m looking forward to see how their connection develops further along in this series and how the magical elements weave into it all. I have some suspicions about Daniel, but I’ll wait until book two to draw any conclusions. There’s certainly more to him than we’ve been shown. He reminds me in some ways of Butch.
That being said though, I’m a little behind in my Black Dagger Brotherhood reading, so I’ll definitely need to go read up to get acquainted with Xhex’s story, but it was really nice to see some of the BDB boys, even if it was just in passing. And I look forward to see how elements of their story is woven into this new world JR is crafting.
And the plot twist at the end? Rocked my world. The entire time I was reading this book, I had been banking on Daniel being the supernatural creature in the story. I absolutely did not even consider anybody else. It’s a testament to how phenomenal a writer this woman is that I didn’t even question the way Daniel’s character had been written.
I have so many questions about all the characters in this story and I am absolutely looking forward to see how JR answers them.
