Lost in the Never Woods by Aiden Thomas

slow-paced

2.0

to be clear, go read Cemetery Boys by Aiden Thomas , that was such a fun read

I’m kinda sad cuz this cute book is
👉🏻In Oregon (personal reasons why I enjoy that)
👉🏻The Peter Pan re write we all want
👉🏻 i loved cemetery Boys and cant wait for the second one
👉🏻 little gender role reversal - so cute when Peter asked Wendy why she was crying and wendy gets to be her own savior!
💖peter is a little older, hot and cute ooolala
 👉🏻cool plot and concept
☹️And it’s boring. - it was slow. wendy too way to long to get on board which was realistic but not interesting
☹️ i would have liked it so much more if it was half the length cuz it was an interesting concept
💔Peter is not our trans icon we all need and Aiden Thomas would totally slay

Aiden Thomas clearly has a fondness for contemporary Ya fantasy but for that reason, I am out on this one.  The whole magic of peter pan is the world, fun pirates, fairies, mermaids, lets take out the stereotyping of indigenous people. This is just set in the real contemporary world and the magic was zapped out :((
I recommend for ages >15 ish
the other issue with this book is was it YA, was it middle grade, was it a fairy tale. the nostalgia, children's stories, and slow pace made it feel middle grade. The police investigation and light romance and trauma made it feel YA. I think i wanted Peter to be like Rofio, still battling pirates but just old enough to be cute and make me blush.
honestly i would rather watch Hook which is sad le sigh

I DNF'd this book bu marked it as read cuz i wanted to leave a review. i skipped to the end though, that was pretty fun then really bad. on the whole my review is the basically the same as most the the other low ratings.
