First rule of passing...Don't be different.

This is a very cute, very sweet coming-of-age story about a young transboy, Spencer Harris, whose entire life has just been turned upside-down and the only place where he feels safe is on the football field. Apart from the fact that he must keep this a secret from his parents, he has to remain in the closet with his teammates, he is unable to play in matches unless he outs himself and - most infuriating for him - one of the boys on the team seems to really hate Spencer. This book explores first love, family, identity and the importance of inclusion. Some aspects were overly sugary sweet, but I really cannot hold it against this book - it made me incredibly happy, particularly when accompanied by the audiobook. I just wish that the author would have allowed Spencer to speak more with his friends and parents. I know that emotional outbursts happen when you are this young, but it is not really something that I want to see in my novels. Overall, really excellent for younger audiences.
