The Crabian Heart, by Karen Runge, Erik Hofstatter

The Crabian Heart is a novella about a refugee boy and his mom who await their fate at a strange seaside town in England with purple water and a strange girl. It reads like part fairy-tale/urban legend, part story about first loves. Personally, I have a hard time connecting with stories that are written from children's perspective, but I enjoyed the writing and the weird, dream-like elements in the story.
