Sourcery by Terry Pratchett
4.0
There was a man who had eight sons. The eighth son had eight sons, the eighth of which was a wizard. And despite all the rules of celibacy and chastity for wizards on the Disc, he married and had eight sons. While each of his sons was as powerful as any wizard in the world, the eighth son was different.
He was a wizard squared. A source of magic.
A sourcerer.
Sourcery is the second Discworld book I am reading after Mort and here I met Rincewind. He is the assistant librarian and is a self-confessed failure. Even the spelling on his hat goes "wizzard."
But when the sourcerer gets crazy ideas in his head, it is up to this good-for-nothing to save the world. Of course, he has the Luggage with him. And Conina, daughter of Cohen the Barbarian, who can cut people faster than she can cut their hair. Oh, and Nijel, the wannabe.
A hat is stolen, a staff causes trouble, the Librarian eats bananas, buildings burn, the Luggage gets angry, and there's a lot of magic. Death also makes an appearance with his horse and three brethren (their horses get stolen).
This book was hilarious and so absurd that I couldn't help laughing out loud. The Luggage is a grim accessory of travel that can defeat imaginary creatures and it is my favorite object now.
4 stars.
