War Storm by Victoria Aveyard
3.0
Damn, this book took me forever to finish. And if I’m being completely honest, the ending wasn’t worth it. I’m about to rant about the entirety of the series, so please excuse that.
1) How did Kilorn not die? He had like 3 near-death experiences throughout the entire series, and yet he ever died. He wasn’t a love interest, didn’t have any powers, nor did he seem like anything. He was like a cardboard box, which most of the childhood best friends tend to be in YA books. He was literally just a fisherman, which after a conversation with my sister, we determined to be buff, but he was only muscle. He legit says at one point, “I’m the muscle.”
2) I wanted Maven to live. Yes, I know that he was messed up inside, had questionable morals, and was probably a psychopath, but he was hot. He was less of a plain wafer than Cal, and he kinda had a better backstory. However, I do know that what he did to Mare was wrong and shouldn’t be excused no matter what, but still. I know that Mare probably didn’t mean to kill him, because if I remember correctly she said that she wanted to help fix him? But the way he died was…Disappointing.
3) I was sad to see that she didn’t pick anyone in the end. But, I always to appreciate a good “I don’t need a man to be happy” lady. She wasn’t Team Maven or Team Cal, she was Team Mare.
Anyways, I’m going to pretend that this book doesn’t exist like many readers because of the ending, and also because I didn’t like it. Overall, 3/5 stars.
