This book destroyed me in the BEST way. The Song of Achilles is one of the most heartbreakingly beautiful books I’ve ever read. The writing style is so eloquent and fragile, yet also does a remarkable job of explaining the mythology behind the story without making it overly complicated. Achilles and Patroclus’ story is not one I’ll forget any time soon. Watching not only their love grow from their friendship, but watching THEM grow as individuals and seeing where they started and where they ended was beautiful. I had friends tell me I would bawl my eyes out during this book and they were NOT wrong. It hit on such a deeply emotional level because it wasn’t just a love story, it was a story about coming into your own and doing what the right thing is. It was about not only romantic love but platonic love and how deeply rooted that is. It was beautiful to watch that all be portrayed on page and this book is DEFINITELY one of my top reads of this year.
