Wrong Place Wrong Time by Gillian McAllister
5.0
Great take on a time travel novel. It really felt like read the book from the end to the beginning like if you turned it and flipped it and read it it would still make sense going the other (regular) way. I liked the midnight library vibes of the days in other years where she wouldn’t know the details of what she was supposed to be doing or names and just had to fake it as Jen of 1997 or what ever while she tried to figure out while she was there all while not knowing if anything she did would affect the present day.
I did not see the Kelly plot twist and though the slow revelation of that was super well done. We hate him we like him we’re not sure about him we like him he’s Ryan. I thought for a hit sec Kelly faked his own death and was still living on the DL doing crime but no! There was a short section where I felt like things got a little messy, when the dad got involved and how Todd met Clio and if the dad put the Eve clio thing together then asking Todd to break up with her then telling him why and Joseph and Andrea asking him to do things and I got a little lost in the plot for a second there otherwise it was like peeling an onion where your assumptions are always wrong a chapter later. Even though I was invested in the Todd Kelly ex cop narrative I was happy that it ended in the one without secrets for Jen.
The epilogue was a great addition especially since Jen had forgotten everything and was essentially living in a completely different world than she was in until the last chapter. Why did she have the dejavu in the first place if that wasn’t where she would end back up? Jen won’t be able to help Patricia at all with no memory of her journey. I wondered how many people were going through the same time travel experience as she was trying to figure out their own things but no one believed them.
