Breathe A Musical by Jodi Picoult

5.0

When people look back on Covid, and they want to know what it was like, I'm going to point them to this book. Was it exactly like this? No. Not for every person. But somehow, this book manages to encapsulate the essence of the lockdown experience.

The terror. The strange joy in the little mundane things. The panic. The beauty. Learning that you'll never be a super mom and maybe that's okay. Learning that maybe you're a better parent, partner, sibling, child, whatever than you ever thought.

Learning that the plan isn't as definite as our date book and college counselors led us to believe.

We are a generation thrown assunder by a (hopefully) once in a generation experience.

And this book will destroy you with it's timeliness.

So if you're ready for it. Dive in. It's one of those deep in your chest, feel good and feel bad cries. I was absolutely wrecked by it yesterday (I randomly had enough errands that I listened to the barely longer than an hour performance in one day). But I don't regret a single second of it.

The music gave me serious Rent vibes. Maybe the whole thing. If you think you can handle it (and maybe even if you don't but you're okay with that) I can't recommend it enough.
