A Dowry of Blood by S.T. Gibson

5.0

When I first finished this I wanted to give it 4.5 stars but then I sat there trying to figure out why I was taking away half a star. After a few minutes I realized I had no justification for doing so because I have zero complaints regarding this book.

There was never a point in which I was left unsatisfied. Whether that be regarding characters, interactions between characters, the world, the love story and even the ending. Everything I wanted, the author gave to me and that makes this book deserving of 5 stars.

The pacing of this book is fucking magnificent. It moves you through the story without ever having a moment where you feel like it’s dragging or like you’re missing out on any details. The characters are also wonderfully crafted and introduced into the story in a natural way and you learn things about them and the world in a very “need to know” basis which kept you, the reader, from being on the receiving end of overwhelming world building which I  am extremely grateful for.

The writing is lyrical and beautiful and the ending was everything I wanted. I was able to read the last page and close this book with the feeling of wanting more because I enjoyed it so much but also being perfectly happy with how it all wrapped up and the time I spent with this book. At the end of the day, I’m very much okay that this book ended up derailing my tbr.
