These are quick fluff reads. Striker decides to answer a distress call which may or may not be a plant. It isn't as we know because the woman is the other side of the couple to come. Strike is taken with her voice and immediately has a connection.
I never really loved the connection because I thought the mask was an impediment. That he cannot trust himself even with those that he trust is something I never quite liked.
