honestly, the first 100 pages of this book had me convinced it was going to be a 5 star. the worldbuilding, the premise, the introduction to the characters? all perfect!

but the pace really dragged towards the second half, i think predominantly it’s because it was a journey centred book. it was a whole lot of walking and that’s really about it? i was hoping for some more exploration and a deeper connection to the characters but it just sort of felt like set up and i’m not sure what’ll come next? even the battle scenes i kinda felt meh towards. but i loved the writing!! and the characters!!

the queernormative world and disability rep were so so well done though and i’ll definitely be picking up the sequel! i think it has a lot of potential :)
