A gripping, terse novel that's half research paper and half toxic relationship thriller. There's as lot of classics academia that I thoroughly enjoyed, especially in the middle section. It captures the passion and excitement of academic discovery extremely well. The external storyline was a great modern take on Daphne and Apollo and volleyed between Tessa and Chris's perspectives in tandem with their sharp, calculating personalities. All in all great book but shaved off a half point because it wasn't quite to the same level of a contemporary like Babel to me (a hard bar to clear!).
Graphic: Child abuse, Toxic relationship, Blood, Death of parent, Gaslighting, and Injury/Injury detail
Moderate: Sexual assault and Dementia
