On the plus side, I got to engage with all the main characters, which was great. I definitely noted in my mind even at the very beginning of reading this, that the thought streams of characters, such as Carla's or Marjie's, and their thought processes laid out to us are actually intriguing and were some of the best parts of this novel for me, strangely.

The plot overall was also alright, just like the writing, keeping in mind that it was Jack Ketchum's first ever book. I really appreciated the Afterword of his and the short story Winter Child in my edition, definitely made me acknowledge its worth more, knowing what the book went through during the whole publishing process.
