Divided Soul: The Life of Marvin Gaye by David Ritz

4.0

I really like his voice and a lot of his music -- "What's Going On?" is one of my favorite albums. But this bio, written by someone with unusually good access to such a tough subject, reminds me that Gaye was all too human and perhaps a better artist than any other role or part he played in life.

As long as a biographer wears his bias on his sleeve I can appreciate his work. Ruiz did about as well as anyone could, considering.
