i'm not quite sure how to wrap my head around this one. it was a strange, strange story with a good creepy + horror factor. i guess it fits right into it main genre of horror fiction if nothing else.
the art in my opinion is pretty good and it compliments the theme. the characters and the colors don't look aesthetically pleasing but more realistic and dull in comparison, giving the storyline that little extra layer of eeriness.
with all that said, i don't quite understand the story. i get it and it's pretty easy to follow as per the basic plotline but at the same, there's a lot of questions left unanswered by the end of it. [spoiler warning] what was the other mother world? where did it come from? what kind of creature exactly was the other mother? why did the she want coraline and if it was for simple reasons that she's a monster then why did she agree to play the games and let her go? what was up with the stone and the way coraline came upon it? and well, so much more.
i wouldn't say i didn't enjoy this book. it had some good elements to it and it did the 'creepy' well and it was just under 200 pages so it didn't get boring. but there's a lot that didn't make sense to me and it's not the kind of story that's going to stick in my mind so two stars it is.
