Depravity: A Beauty and the Beast Novel, by M. J. Haag

2.0

To be fair, I did devour this series in the span of something like a day and a half. But what killed it for me was how the whole freaking village seemed to be out to rape the main character. A flaming case of Rape as Drama - I felt like I had been suddenly and repeatedly jerked out of what was otherwise a decent story and into a terrible fanfiction. Just, no. Rape can be an important driver of plot when addressed tactfully, but in this case it was overused, and was not used well. By the time we arrived at the point in the series where rape actually had some purpose in driving the plot (even then, I felt it was a weak plot point), I was already fed up because it had been so trivialized in the previous instances.
