In a New York Minute by Kate Spencer

3.0

This was a delightful little book about the magic of chance encounters, New York City, and life when you stop trying to control it all.

This feels like a classic 90’s romcom, with a silly meet cute, two people who couldn’t be more different, and lives that keep bringing them back together even though they’re convinced they’re not a good match.

I enjoyed this light read that took us into the lives of Hayes, an emotionally buttoned up finance dude working in environmental sustainability, and Franny, a spunky and creative interior designer. They meet one day on the subway, during one of the worst days of Franny’s life, and a stranger posts their meeting on social media, deeming them #SubwayQT’s.

I enjoyed how original and creative the plot is on this one - and the author does a lovely job crafting the characters of not just Franny and Hayes, but also all the wonderful people in their lives who love them and want them to be happy. It was an easy, enjoyable read and I’d recommend it to anyone who spends their weekends rewatching “you’ve got mail.”
