The Black Lizard and Beast in the Shadows by Edogawa Rampo

4.0

I consumed quite an amount of media based on-and influenced by Rampo's work over a course of many years, so that The Black Lizard with its very noir feel to it (Mme Midorikawa reminded me a lot of Mine Fujiko), and The Beast in the Shadows that reads more like a traditional detective story both felt very familiar. The stories come with different narrative approaches and offer references to some of his other works. Aside from the brief yet informative introduction, this book contains illustrations that additionally guide through the stories. I'm tempted to give it a 4.5/5.
