Before I say anything about the book I want to be clear that Britney is a victim in all that has happened to her. She has experienced severe trauma stemming from an abusive childhood and being in the spotlight in a time where mental health was not prioritized, and in her case even mocked.

Overall, I think the book was interesting, listening to it rather than reading it, I feel, is more enjoyable. It felt more like a podcast than a literary piece. I think that it stays a little surface level except for the bombshells that we got when there was press going around for the book. I thought after reading the book I’d get a better understanding of why she was seen as being so out of control or why they felt the conservatorship was so necessary but I don’t really feel any different than I did before (@TheReadheads touched on this in more depth if you’d like to listen). I believe that her life was so, so hard and that she was treated unfairly but because it felt like she was leaving things out it almost felt like she was an unreliable narrator. It’s a quick read and if you’re interested it’s a great one to listen to but overall definitely not one of my favorites when it comes to this year and memoirs overall.
