This book genuinely never lets you feel comfortable in a way that Sucks and Fuckin Rules. Even the moments when the characters feel comfortable are unsettling in an interesting way.
She's really good at writing sex which makes scenes where she flips it into a horror device even more challenging. A lot of the negative reviews on here really lay into the book for relying on rape as a horror device but I think when you’re addressing fascistic attitudes to transness, and especially trans femininity, it’s far from falling back on sexual violence (against women) as the generic Worst Thing.
This is good horror, good writing, good transness, good book.
