Acceptance by Jeff VanderMeer

3.0

Compared even to Authority, especially to Annihilation, I was really disappointed. The theme of the book is even enough to gather, and that lends itself well to a sort of anti-climax, of course. But it comes off preachy, lethargic, and esoteric. Vandermeer spent a lot of time creating a special kind of dread that just... well, is, thank you very much.

Perhaps, years from now, I will come back to this series and see that it truly was a masterpiece, and see all the motifs and themes I missed because it was an audiobook. But for now, the sinner shall rejoice, for there is no sin in light or in darkness that the seeds of the dead cannot forgive.
