One Crazy Summer by Rita Williams-Garcia

Didn't know anything about the book before I started reading and wasn't sure what to expect. At first, I was turned off by the heavy emotions by the main character, just because I wasn't sure I wanted to delve into the mind of a child abandoned by her mother. Listening to it on audiobook, I got maybe halfway through and then put it down when another title became available from the library that I was waiting for. I picked this back up right after and have to say, really enjoyed the rest of it and actually look forward to reading the sequel. Not my standard genre, but am trying to read all of this year's NC Battle of the Books books along with my students, which has been good for me as it's gotten me out of the niche that I tend to always find myself in.
