Trigger warnings: death of a parent (in the past), death of a sibling (in the past), grief, panic attacks, mental health, incarceration of a parent, alcoholism, car accident, suicide attempt (in the past)

Oh, my heart. I put off reading this for about a thousand years (along with its sequel), and then once I picked it up, I flew through it in less than 24 hours. It reminded me a lot of Katie McGarry's books, which I was OBSESSED with back in the day. This is, at its heart, two kids who are struggling with grief and loss and picking up the pieces of their lives while feeling absolutely unlovable.

I adored the protagonists and the dynamic between them. The letter writing was lovely, and I was genuinely surprised by some of the directions the story took. It's been a horrifyingly long time - nearly a month - since I read a new-to-me 5 star book and I'm SO glad this one hit the mark.
