Wow. Just -- WOW. What a trilogy!
I was genuinely scared about being disappointed, but I loved this final chapter of the Winternight trilogy. There was not a single dull moment; by the end I found myself smiling that sad smile which marks the end of a beautiful and special experience.
Vasya is a powerhouse of a main character and it was a joy to see her grow, come into her own and realise the full extent of her nature, abilities and ambitions. Morozko continues to be a captivating character and the romance between the two of them was handled in the best way possible. All the other supporting characters are genuinely great too: Sasha, Pozhar and Solovey, Olga, Dmitrii... I even grew to appreciate Medved, master of chaos.
Arden managed to infuse so much of her passion for history and folklore in this series and the result was a rich, vivid and immersive atmosphere that had me spellbound from start to finish. There are so many real and powerful emotions in these books too! Truly like a balm for the soul.
