Down with the System: A Memoir (of Sorts) by Serj Tankian

5.0

While I'm always pretty fond of celebrity memoirs, this was hands down my favorite book I've read in a long time. It wasn't what I expected, but in a way that made it that much better - it of course covered Serj's experiences with System of a Down, but seemed much more focused overall on his Armenian heritage and his political activism. I learned a lot that I never knew, especially about the Armenian genocide and the resulting tension that has remained for over 100 years since then, and I also got to hear behind the scenes of how some really impactful moments in System of a Down's history happened.

I genuinely recommend it for everyone, but especially if you've ever considered yourself a fan of System of a Down.
