This book ticks off so many items on the list that gets me going: suspense, tying in religion as a theme, people of faith falling into a corrupt insanity. This book has it all. I loved the Russian inspiration and it's clash against Christianity. Father Konstantin is a character I truly love to hate, and the winter demon is that terrifying presence that's just *chef's kiss*
The story was slow for about the first third, but once it picks up it REALLY picks up. There were some aspects of the final part that kinda made me think "is this necessary?" But it is not at all a big enough concern to knock any points away. So glad to finally get my first 5 star rating of 2022.
