The Fastest Way To Fall by Denise Williams
3.0
3.5 stars: Let's start with the positives- Britta and Wes are incredibly likable characters with a lot of heart. Their love story is sweet, and you truly root for both of them throughout the story. I like that Britta's health journey was relatable, but she never played the victim. This body positive story did not feel too political or whiney, which really elevated the read. I would explore more of this author's work because this was a breeze to digest. It would have been the perfect beach book.
BUT there were some flops for me. The thing that kept bugging me about the narrative was that the author told us how great Britta was without really showing us. She or other characters kept telling Britta how funny she was or how she was a phenomenal writer. But when it came down to it, nothing she was saying was funny, and nothing she was writing was out of the box. Her jokes felt dated and did not land. I was lacking some authenticity there. I also think this story is subject to some cheesy tropes, and I hated the "race" ending.
