Love Songs & Other Lies: A Novel by Jessica Pennington

2.0

If there's one thing I like in Love Songs & Other Lies, it's the writing style. I really appreciate the author handling the alternating perspectives and timelines smoothly. Honestly, I think I would've liked this much more if not for the annoyance that takes in the form of Vee, who unfortunately takes up 100% of the book because she's the main character. If I'm not enduring her scathing monologues, I have to put up with Cam's unfortunate predicament of setting things straight with her and getting the cold treatment in the process because heavens forbid that life doesn't just work out and not everything is going to be served on a silver platter because they're going to be stuck together on tour. The thing with Vee is that it's so freaking hard to root for her- she's immature, naive, and is a complete hypocrite- not exactly the ideal combo for a main protagonist. Like at some point of the book, I honestly thought that Cam deserved better although I don't necessarily like him as much as I was supposed to. Like the dude's a good person, I just think he wasn't given that much attention to truly develop. Characters aside, the drama that ensued within the book didn't really do it any favors either. It just honestly made me not like it more.

PS.
Logan is a ball of cuteness and sunshine that must be appreciated at all times. We stan lovable himbos <33
